Sandbox
Lightning AI Sandbox provides isolated, on-demand Linux environments you can create and control programmatically. Each sandbox gets its own filesystem, network stack, and dedicated compute.
What you can do
- Execute untrusted or user-generated code safely, without exposing production systems
- Build interactive tools like code playgrounds or AI-powered UI builders
- Test agent output or user-submitted code in a self-contained environment
- Run development servers with live previews

Runtimes
The runtime is the base image inside the sandbox. Pick one at create time, or bring your own OCI image.

When runtime is not given, it defaults to node24.
Regardless of the runtime, you always have sudo access inside the sandbox.
Instance types
The instance type is the machine shape, chosen independently from the runtime.
